Believe And Know

John 6:45, 69

It is written in the Prophets, "And they shall all be taught of God."

Jesus was quoting Isaiah 54:13a. The word He used for taught is recorded here in the Greek as DIASKO, which refers to a mental assent.

Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to Me.

Here, the word He used for learned is recorded as the Greek word MATHON, which means experiential knowledge.

And we have believed and have come to know that You are the Holy One of God.

Peter is presenting this same order: believe, and you will know. James also tells us (1:22) to not just give a mental agreement to the Truth, but to live it out in our lives. This is the Divine order: decide to believe, then you will see and understand. And when your learning goes from your head to your heart, then you will have God's perspective in your attitudes and the way you live your daily life.

Even so, come, Lord Jesus!
