Confidence

Judges 6:11

Gideon son of Joash was threshing wheat at the bottom of a winepress to hide the grain from the Midianites.

Luke 22:61-62

At that moment the Lord turned and looked at Peter. Then Peter remembered that the Lord had said, "Before the rooster crows tomorrow morning, you will deny three times that you even know Me." And Peter left the courtyard, weeping bitterly.

Both Gideon and Peter had no confidence in themselves. But God's plans for them were not anything they would have tried on their own. Gideon became a mighty warrior who led Israel to great military victories; and Peter became one of the most outspoken and powerful of the Lord's witnesses and was a pillar of the early church.

How often do we think we can do something great for God, but it falls flat. God doesn't want us to be useful for Him, He wants us to be devoted to Him. Only when we recognize our inability to accomplish anything will God show His power in us to do what we would never even imagine.

Even so, come, Lord Jesus!
